A Quicker Scroll
 
I know I've given you some scrolling tips in the past, but
I have another great one for you today. I actually thought
for sure that we've told you all about this one before, but
I couldn't find it anywhere in our archives, so here it is.
If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, listen up. This
one is so cool, you're not going to be able to contain your
excitement! : )
 
So, again, if you have a mouse that has a scroll wheel, try
giving the wheel a push. Yep, just press your finger
directly down on the wheel and see what happens. Once you
do that, you should see a big double arrow appear. You can
then just move your mouse up and down and it will do an
"automatic scroll" for you. That's right, once you click
the wheel, you no longer have to actually scroll. Just move
your mouse around and it will all be taken care of.
 
Now, this feature doesn't work everywhere, but it covers
most of the common areas. For example, it works on any Web
page in any Web browser, it works in different e-mail
programs, in an MS Word document and so on. I use it most
when I'm browsing the Web. It's so convenient and easy to
use. Then once you're done scrolling, just give the wheel
another click and your mouse will go back to normal. I'm
tellin' ya, it works wonders. Give it a try today!

Bid High If You're On A Budget
 
Adwords is a great, instanteous way to turn traffic on for
your site. But it can get expensive, fast.
 
So we're going to go over one way to quickly lower the
costs of your campaigns.
 
But first some basics about AdWords.
 
Adwords uses a formula to determine your ad position - bid
amount times the keyword quality score.
 
Quality Score?
 
Quality score is determined by your keyword's clickthrough
rate, relevance of your ad text, historical keyword
performance, and other relevancy factors.
 
Got it? So there's the relevancy, clickthrough rate and
some other hand waving. What we're going to concentrate on
is the clickthrough rate for this exercise.
 
The end result is - the higher the clickthrough rate, the
less you have to pay for the positions you want. For
example, if you have a twice the click through rate of your
competitors, you only need to have 1/2 the price to get the
same ad position.
 
Fantastic! But how do I...
 
Get A Better Clickthrough Rate?
 
There are 3 major things you can do to increase your
clickthrough rates:
 
1. Have higher positioned ads - This may be completely
obvious, but the higher positioned ads get better
clickthrough rates! (Generally they have lower conversion
rates, so you need to find your business' 'sweet spot'.)
 
2. Put the keyword in the headline. This may mean you have
a lot of smaller adgroups - but the effort is well worth
the money you'll save. This also positively affects the
relevancy determination used by google (see quality score
above) acting as a one-two punch to help you getter better
position.
 
3. Split Test. You have to be constantly split testing your
ads and determining new winners. Slowly but surely you'll
increase your clickthrough rate. This is more of a long
term strategy. But you should be split testing from the
beginning, so don't ignore it.
 
Early on, before you have any relevancy score, the only way
you're going to be able to get a higher ad position is by...
 
Bidding High
 
Counterintuitive to saving money? Yes.
 
But after you have 10-100 clickthroughs at ad positions 1-3
with (hopefully) above 5% clickthrough rates, you'll notice
the minimum bid for each keyword has been lowered. What was
once $0.30 is now $0.08. Once this happens, you'll slash
your bid prices and you'll be able to maintain a good
position at a much
 
lower cost.
 
You could reach the same place by bidding low and
consistently split testing over the coming months until
your clickthrough rates are high enough to lower your bid
prices. But that's months of testing and paying the default
minimum bid prices if not more...). Spending a couple of
days to a week paying higher prices will save more money
and time in the long run.

If you have a lot of content on your website, subdomains are
great for separating large topics and organizing your
information.
 

For example, if your website is about music, you could have
a subdomain for each category - classical music, heavy
metal, jazz, etc. Each subdomain would be separate website
and the url would look like this:
 

jazz.yourwebsite.com
 

For SEO purposes, this is a huge 'plus' as your target
keyword appears before your domain name and more of your
webpages are likely to be indexed as each subdomain is
treated as an independent website by the search engines.
 

If you have a blog or forum, this can also be separated from
your main site in its own subdomain. Also, if you have
products or services with a large amount of content about
each one, these can be put into their own subdomains.
 

Another benefit of using subdomains is... it won't cost you
anything! You won't need to purchase a new domain for each

The Six Human Needs

Tony Robbins has identified six basic human
needs and believes everyone is--or can be--
motivated by their desire to fulfill these needs.
 
You may want to consider these needs when
thinking about developing and delivering
products and services to people. The question
to ask is, "What need or needs does my
product fulfill for my customer?"
 
1. Certainty/Comfort. We all want comfort.
And much of this comfort comes from certainty.
Of course there is no ABSOLUTE certainty,
but we want certainty the car will start, the water
will flow from the tap when we turn it on and the
currency we use will hold its value.
 
2. Variety. At the same time we want certainty,
we also crave variety. Paradoxically, there needs
to be enough UNcertainty to provide spice and
adventure in our lives.
 
3. Significance. Deep down, we all want to be
important. We want our life to have meaning
and significance. I can imagine no worse a
death than to think my life didn't matter.
 
4. Connection/Love. It would be hard to argue
against the need for love. We want to feel part
of a community. We want to be cared for and
cared about.
 
5. Growth. There could be some people who
say they don't want to grow, but I think they're
simply fearful of doing so--or perhaps NOT
doing so. To become better, to improve our skills,
to stretch and excel may be more evident in some
than others, but it's there.
 
6. Contribution. The desire to contribute some
thing of value--to help others, to make the world
a better place than we found it is in all of us.
 
Action Point
Evaluate this list to better understand your
personal motivations and examine which ones
seem the most significant to you. Then, look at
what you do to fulfill the needs of others. It will
likely make a difference in what and how you
do what you do. It also should make a difference
in the way you describe and explain what you
and your product can do.

Directory Submissions that Matter By Sharon Housley
 
Links from different directories have different values. A
webmaster's time is limited, and most webmasters want to
get the biggest bang for their bucks. So where should they
start when it comes to directory submissions? Search
engines assign value to links from the various directories
differently, so how do you spend your time where it matters
most?
 
Yahoo
 
Yahoo is still, to some degree, the king of directories.
Whether a Yahoo directory link is worth "paying for" is
still a debatable question, but there is no doubt that a
link from Yahoo is worth the effort. Do not leave a Yahoo
link to automated submission software -- take the time to
manually submit your links to the Yahoo Directory.

DMOZ
 
Amazingly, it appears that DMOZ is still relevant. While
some webmasters complain that DMOZ is outdated, it is
apparent that a DMOZ link still matters to the larger
search engines. DMOZ is a human-edited directory with
different editors for each category. As such, patience is
critical to obtaining a listing. Editors can become annoyed
when sites are submitted multiple times, and before they've
had the opportunity to review the quality of the content.
Some editors work quicker than others, so be patient and
polite, and you may get lucky with a DMOZ listing.
 
 
Wikipedia
 
A legitimate link that stays in Wikipedia is very
desirable. Wikipedia is a human-edited online encyclopedia.
Wikipedia links are very difficult to obtain, and even more
difficult to retain. But if you build a unique quality
resource on a niche subject, you might find yourself linked
on a page in Wikipedia.
 
 
Major Download Websites
 
The major software download websites are all capable of
driving traffic, and can impact a websites popularity. Make
sure to manually submit your software to these three major
download websites:
 
 
Popular Directories
 
The more popular the directory, the better the link is
considered to be. Link popularity matters, and a link from
a webpage with a high page rank (as determined by the
Google Toolbar) is desirable. You can assess the general
popularity and value of a directory by viewing the page
rank of the webpages on a website.
 
Related Niche Directories
 
Websites that are an authority on related subject material
are great sources of web traffic. Conduct very specific
searches to locate popular niche directories.

No one who's serious about Net-success would intentionally

And yet, it happens every single day.
 

How would you respond to this ad:  'Can U Aford to Loose
Any More Bussiness?'
 

I received this yesterday.  Ordinarily, it'd be deleted faster
than the speed of light, but a weird compunction overtook
me so I skimmed the ad.  It was for a service that had both
merit & financial potential.
 

The opening read:  FOR THE SAKES OF YOUR BUSSINESS,
YOURE REQUESTED TO READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY IMEDIATELY !!!
 

Not a chance.
 

First, all those capital letters seemed way too urgently
frantic, but also, did this person never hear of spell-check?
 

I know the Net is international, but was I going to spend
time ruminating about whether English was someone's 2nd or
3rd language - or whether this was a nice person who was
punctuation-challenged?
 

In Business, it just doesn't work that way.  Sending ads
bogged down with misspellings & other glaring errors is
about as insulting as you can get to your audience.  People
you are asking money, or anything else, from deserve &
expect much better.
 

By refusing this offer, was I cutting off my nose to spite
my face? Heck, no!  I can get this from someone who is more
professional.  Plus, if this is the initial approach, what
happens if something goes wrong with the transaction?
Too scary to think about.
 

We say it over & over, but this cannot be stressed enough:
 

- Your Ads Make Your Money!
- Your Competition is Murderous!
- You'll Never Meet Up With Financial Success sending ads
that scream, "Ignore the mistakes, just send me your money
or join my program!"

WhyYou Should Use HTML  Web Templates?

Web templates expedite the process of setting up a new
website. The idea behind a web template is that it will
save time with the creative design and layout process.
 
In the business world, time is money; hence, using
templates can save money. It can be a challenge to find a
web designer for hire, and quite often the designer's
schedule will not always mesh with the needs of a small
business. Time rarely controls a web graphic designer.
Artists are, well, artistic, and don't necessarily work by
the clock. Instead, they work when inspiration strikes,
which can be problematic when there are deadlines to meet.
Templates are ready-made, and can be easily edited,
allowing you to instantly create a website.
 
In addition, webmasters that may lack adequate graphic or
design skills can quickly and easily create a website
themselves, simply by editing and customizing the existing
HTML layout in a web template. And locating a themed web
template takes far less time than attempting to create a
layout and graphics from scratch. Web templates also remove
any coding issues. This is especially helpful to webmasters
who are just starting out and just learning HTML coding.
 
The bottom line is that webmasters who use web templates
will have their websites up and running much quicker.
 
Where To Find Webmaster Templates?
 
Locating a web template that meets your business or
personal needs doesn't have to be difficult. There are
online directories and galleries, most of which are
categorized into themes or by industries. For example, a
variety of themed and generic templates can be found at

What Is A Good Template, And What Is Not?
 
Differentiating between a good template and a not-so-good
template can be difficult for an amateur. A beginner should
have no issues editing the basic HTML layout, but some of
the more complex graphic templates and web designs can be
difficult for a novice to manipulate. If you are a
beginner, stick with HTML-based templates, which can be
edited with a common HTML editor, until you get the hang of
web design.
 
How Can Templates Be Edited?
 
It depends on the format of the web template, but in most
cases the web templates available online can be edited
using common HTML editors such as DreamWeaver, FrontPage,
or Web Express. The graphics can be edited in any type of
imaging application such as PaintShop Pro, Gimp, or
PhotoShop. Some templates will also use CSS (Cascading
Style Sheets) to control and standardize things like font
sizes and colors across all web pages. These CSS files can
be edited using a CSS editor like TopStyle.
 
What Should I Look For In A Ready-Made Web Template?
 
Web templates should be editable in any HTML editor.
 
What Am I Allowed And Not Allowed To Do With The Templates?
 
Different templates are licensed for different purposes and
with different restrictions. You must carefully read the
licensing agreement on the template's website to determine
how the template can be used. Most licenses allow templates
to be modified and customized. Some licenses stipulate that
the templates are for personal use only, and not for
commercial use, so be careful there.
 
Web templates offer webmasters a great opportunity to
minimize development time and get new sites on the web
sooner rather than later. The structure of web templates
allow webmasters to focus on the proprietary content
development, and optimizing the website for search engines,
rather than struggling with layout and graphics.
