Hi ,

Welcome to all of our new subscribers!:)

I have mentioned a time or two about my dad having problems
with one of his lungs. Well after several months of testing
the doctors have determined that dad has a tumor and it is
growing pretty fast.

Some good news is that all of the test they have been doing
around his lung and other scans are not showing any signs
of cancer. so the big thing we are praying for is that it
is just a big old malignant tumor.

It is going to require surgery though and that will happen
sometime after Thanksgiving. When it does happen we will be
with dad for about 6 days in a hospital about 3 hours from
where we live.

I have told you before my dad is my hero but I have never
told you why. My dad only had an 8th grade education and he
ran a business here in the town I live in and 40 years
later he sold that business for over a half a million
dollars.

How many people do you know with an 8th grade education
could have done that? I know things were different 50 or 60
years ago but just think about what that took and the guts
on top of all of that. My dad is a man that will do what he
says he is going to do and I have tried to patterned my
life after that.

Even now I hope I can be half the man he is. On top of all
of that he was married to my mom for 52 years before she
died from cancer about 9 years ago. So lets pray for dad
and hope that he gets through all of this and you can
believe I am standing right behind him.

I don't bring my personal life in my marketing much but I
will let you know how he is doing from time to time.

Is Your Business Missing Procedures?

The most successful businesses around use procedures in
order to grow and thrive, are you? If you aren't already,
you've have a few things to work on. First things first, I
want to know if your idea of procedures is like my own.

A procedure in a business needs to be written down in a
step by step format, not leaving out any details. That
procedure should be able to be followed by anyone. Even if
the procedure is currently performed by you, it needs to be
recorded in some way so your staff, interns, or even a next
owner will be able to follow it.

If you don't think that your business can run on procedures
or making procedures is a waste of time, think again. Any
task you do on your business can be made very easily into a
procedure. Even writing a press release, article, or
e-mailing a client needs to be turned into a procedure. Not
only is turning that task into a procedure beneficial to
others, if you continue to follow the same procedure in
your business, you'll gradually notice everything getting a
little bit easier.

One benefit to following your own procedures is that you
won't accidentally forget an important step. Another
benefit is that you'll be able to have a better look at
each step you are doing, and you might even be able to weed
out any unnecessary steps and eliminate wasted time.

Do yourself a favor and train yourself to spot areas where
time is leaking. If the fax takes too long, maybe step X
should require an e-mail? Improving and making modification
to procedures is just as important as having them. Once
they are the structure of your business, changing the
procedures is making a change to your business.

One example is from my own business. Here's a procedure:

1. Record video product
2. Purchase domain
3. Purchase hosting
4. Upload product to website
5. Write sales page
6. Set up payment processor

Here's an example of the process revised to eliminate
wasted time:

1. Make video recording
2. Add video to CD
3. Add video to the disk manufacturing service
4. Provide product link to possible customers

Although I changed the procedure from creating a
downloadable product to a physical product for customers to
purchase, the result was less product creation time, and
no effect on the number of sales I received.

Try developing a few processes for your own business. If
you have staff, train them to follow them. Maybe then you
can escape your office for a change?

"How You're Losing Good Information"

I suspect people are reading ezines less NOT because of spam but
because of what the CAN-SPAM Act did to internet marketers.  It
gives marketers the okay to send unabashed sales letters with no
pretense of content.

Then, there's the advent of the squeeze page.  You're required
to join a list to get anything - sometimes including access to a
sales page (which couldn't possibly be more asinine).

Nevertheless, it simply creates more email no one is reading.
"REAL" spam is easier to control than all the advertising we
receive.

I send separate advertising to newsletter subscribers.  After
testing, I've narrowed it down to about twice per month.  I try
to provide the very best products and services at reasonable
costs as a benefit to our subs.

However, the email causing the problems is that being sent
several times every week - and as often as daily.  Even sending
"freebies" every day is an annoyance to the receiver.  Maybe,
even "especially," since that is (usually) nothing more than a
come-on to sell something else.

This is causing the over-kill that keeps folks tired of email.
It keeps them from reading content they actually asked for
because they wanted it - NOT because they were hijacked into it.

We can't stop the marketers from abusing the right to send ads.
Obviously they're making money, or they wouldn't do it.  Send
enough emails and you WILL sell.  They play the numbers game.

Is there an answer?  Yes!  Get OFF lists sending email you don't
want.  Unless your sole purpose is to receive yet more
advertising from those who use squeeze pages to get you to sign
up - unsubscribe!  You're NOT going to get any content.

But, UNSUBSCRIBE properly - no matter WHAT you cancel!

I DO have to wonder why folks bother to subscribe to newsletters
and ezines if they aren't going to bother to read them.  Why
send email to the junk folder or use those stupid "This is Spam"
buttons (for something we subscribed to) when we can just
unsubscribe?  Is it stupidity or laziness?

If you're getting on lists because you're giving up your email
address to get free stuff - and you ARE - there's nothing to
stop you from UNSUBSCRIBING if you're not going to read the
senders' material.

But, DON'T call that material "spam" when you signed up for it!
Sooner, or later, there's going to be some accountability for
saying something you subscribed to is spam - and causing the
publisher grief.

If you have a lot of content on your website, subdomains are
great for separating large topics and organizing your
information.


For example, if your website is about music, you could have
a subdomain for each category - classical music, heavy
metal, jazz, etc. Each subdomain would be separate website
and the url would look like this:


jazz.yourwebsite.com


For SEO purposes, this is a huge 'plus' as your target
keyword appears before your domain name and more of your
webpages are likely to be indexed as each subdomain is
treated as an independent website by the search engines.


If you have a blog or forum, this can also be separated from
your main site in its own subdomain. Also, if you have
products or services with a large amount of content about
each one, these can be put into their own subdomains.

Is a Guarantee worth the Website it is written on?

(A warning tale!)


Do you pay any attention to the Guarantees that are
included on most selling websites you visit?   Have you
even noticed them?  Have you ever invoked a Guarantee, ie
bought something and then, for whatever reason, changed
your mind and asked for your money back under the
Guarantee? Or how many times have you just simply put
things to one side, and forgotten all about it?

Sound familiar?  Yes, we have all done the latter at one
time or another.  And the majority of website owners know
that and rely on it to keep the numbers of returns/refunds
to a minimum.

Why do you think that they offer these 90 day, six months,
a year refund Guarantee?  Because they know that having a
Guarantee gives us confidence to buy.  The long term of the
Guarantee period takes the urgency out of any decision we
make to return the goods.  It is more than likely that, if
we are not satisfied with our purchase, we will say to
ourselves, "Oh well, I have plenty of time to think about
returning (or claiming the refund) later".  But life
happens, other things take over, and it gets forgotten. 

Even if we do remember eventually, more than likely we will
shrug and think that it is so long ago now we are too late.
 We very rarely go back and check on the length of the
Guarantee.  If we did we may get a nice shock and find that
the Guarantee was for a long time and, in fact, we could
still claim.  But it is human nature to figure we are too
late, so we do not check.

All of the foregoing is psychology and part of the science
of selling which is used both online and off. Of course
online is somewhat different to walking into a shop, but
after all a Guarantee is a Guarantee, right?

If we purchase something that has a Guarantee offline, we
are provided with a written Guarantee which states the
terms and conditions, and here in the UK (I can only talk
about what I know) we have laws which give us Consumer
Protection.  Say I tried to claim a refund under a
Guarantee, but the seller then started quoting different
terms to those set out prior to purchase, I would have a
pretty good comeback against such action.

What happens if a purchase is made on the internet? Again
if the buyer and seller were in the UK, I would have the
same protection - provided the seller was easy to find etc.

But what if the two parties, the purchaser and the seller,
are in different countries?  The seller has produced a
lovely website for a new program, with a finely presented
and worded, seemingly very simple and straight forward,
Guarantee:

"My Guarantee To You; I am so confident in my program that
I am willing to give you a 100% no questions asked refund
for any reason if you are not satisfied."

So, you buy the program, but an hour or so later, after
thoroughly reading and examining the program, you are not
happy.  It does not live up to the hype of that website.
It is nowhere near as good as you expected.  And only after
purchasing do you learn that to set the program up properly
requires additional expenses of approximately $200!

NO problem, there is that Guarantee, go back to the
website, read it through again, double check the Guarantee.
 Check over the rest of the website, and even the members
area, but that one first sentence sums up the Guarantee.
You can see no other terms or conditions, so you are
covered.

Mmmm.

First reply from Customer Support says you "should give the
program a try for a week and then see."

But to do that would involve spending that extra money. Had
you known about the extra expense in first place you would
not have purchasing the program to begin with.

So you write back and say no, sorry, not satisfied with the
program and not prepared to spend the extra, can I have my
refund please.

Second Reply: Out of the blue new terms and conditions are
quoted:

"1. It has been at least sixty (60) days from the purchase
     date of Products; and

 

 

> 2. Customer has completely followed Company      
instructions and recommendations for Products

 

> All written requests for refunds must be sent after  
sixty (60) days from the purchase date of Products.    Any
earlier requests shall be disregarded."

You go back to the websites, and check and check again, and
nowhere on any website do these terms and conditions appear
in any shape or form!

So you remind them of this, and quote their own Guarantee
wording to them.

Third Reply:  "Go and get your refund from Clickbank."

Now I purchased using Paypal through the Clickbank page.  I
have never had to claim a refund via Clickbank before, let
alone Paypal via Clickbank, but after the above I guess I
am going to have to try. 

YES - this is an actual case, it happend to me this week
(30th/31st Oct 2007), and the program concerned is
'TheUndergroundCashSecret'.       (By the way, the same
program seems to have now appeared under a new name, ie
'Kills Bills' - makes one wonder why????)

All of the above is true and fully documented.

Please note I am not saying that all online Guarantees are
worthless.  Indeed I have claimed the odd refund from other
online sellers, and up to now have found that they are
usually courteous and swift to comply. I have never before
been referred elsewhere to claim the refund, or been kept
waiting.  Those sellers are intent on keeping their
reputations intact, and their customers happy, unlike the
above.

I have written this article in the hope of stopping anyone
else from falling foul of the above mentioned program.

I leave it up to you to make up your own mind whether you
wish to do business with people who act in this despicable
way.
