Why Your Business Should Have a Blog - 7 Practical Answers
It doesn't matter if you call it a "niche", a "target market", your "ideal prospects" or some other term...if you're selling products, promoting affiliate offers or simply creating content online for nearly any group of people as part of your online business, you absolutely MUST have a blog. These days, it's just not an option if you truly want long-term success. What used to be simple little online diaries have now become powerful ways of organizing and offering content to a wide audience of people dying for fresh, new ideas on nearly any topic. If you're not using a blog yet, by the end of this article you'll hopefully "see the light" and understand why this is such an important platform to add into your online business efforts. In fact, there are quite a few reasons why you should seriously consider creating a blog for your online business today, but let's just go over a few of them in the interest of time.
1. Information-based Marketing Versus Hype
One of the biggest reasons to create a blog is for more effective marketing. No matter what business you're in, it's probably a more competitive landscape now than ever before, with it getting harder and harder to gain the attention of your prospects (people are TOO BUSY to be barraged with blatant marketing). But with a blog, you can create valuable content (audio, video, text or all three) that separates you from the competition as your prospects are comparing all the available options. And if you know that people are out there looking for certain types of information that ties in with the products and services you offer, you should DEFINITELY be offering that sort of info on a blog, while also promoting your products as solutions to those problems.
2. Show You're the Expert They Should Buy From
Having timely, useful information also helps to position you (or your company) as the expert in the eyes of your prospects. This point is HUGE. We all put a certain level of credibility on those that produce good content - this could be a book, an article in a publication, a radio interview, etc. The same is true for your blog, especially if you have lots of quality posts. Having lots of content available on your topic helps you prove your expertise and builds trust with your visitors. Those are the people you want coming to do business with you - people that trust you and CHOOSE to do business with you.
3. Drive Traffic to other Products and Services
By providing great info on your blog, you're able to bring targeted traffic to your site in ways that a traditional website just isn't able to. That's because it's so easy to add new content to a blog (about as easy as writing an email). And it's a well-known fact that more content generally means more traffic. As you start getting more traffic, you can direct those website visitors to other sites, to products or services you offer, to affiliate products that you believe in that also earn you a commission, and on and on. This not only makes your blog a valuable resource from a positioning standpoint, but also helps turn your blog into a profit center for your business.
4. Earn Subscribers and Build a Relationship With Them
One common mistake people make is not building a subscriber list as people visit their site. This is tough to do with a static site, again because there's no real reason for people to come back to the site and not much reason for them to sign up for an email list. But if your site has great content and you offer people a chance to sign up to receive more specialized info (like a free report or course), your visitors are more likely to take you up on that offer. And if you can build a list of subscribers and foster a relationship with them where they know, like and trust you and where you have a sense of community, you'll never run out of business. A blog allows you to build that sort of relationship thanks to features like commenting, RSS and other interactive elements.
5. Build Rapport With Other Blog Publishers in Your Market
In the same way that you can use a blog to build a relationship with your subscribers, you can also build relationships with other blog publishers in your market. Perhaps there's someone who also markets to your same target audience who you could partner with on a project. Or you could offer them a spot in your affiliate program where they'd get paid more than the average affiliate for sending traffic to your site. This sort of relationship building is also aided by things like the ability to use comments, and their sibling, trackbacks (among other features).
6. Educate Your Website Visitors and Buyers
By providing useful content to your visitors, you get a more educated customer, and therefore, a better customer. If you want a near zero resistance selling environment, then having a way to address most objections up front, before you have to be face-to-face with your prospect is one way to do it. You could have blog posts that address common objections or things that seem like weaknesses in your product. You can highlight what people will gain by using your product and your content can offer tips for how best to use the product once someone buys. This is similar to what you might do in a face-to-face selling situation, but now it's done nearly on autopilot.
7. Identify New Opportunities for Your Business
Once you get a decent amount of traffic to your site and start getting comments and other feedback, you'll pick up on other things that lead you to new products and services you can offer. You'll see what new challenges people are facing, other gaps that need to be filled, other problems that people are seeking solutions for. These can all be great starting points for follow-on products or services that address these issues, providing your audience with answers and providing you with new income streams. And they say there's no such things as a win-win?

Invert Selections
Have you ever needed to select *most* of the files in a folder using Windows Explorer? Maybe you're copying them to a floppy, moving them to new folder, or doing somefile management.
In any case, it can be a hassle. Here's a better way!
First, select the files you DON'T want. If there are multiple files that you don't want, hold down your Ctrl key as you select the files. Next, go to the Edit menu and select " Invert Selection " from the menu.
The files you selected previously are now deselected and everything else is selected.

Smallest Bill? Or Highest Rate?
My husband and I have accumulated some credit card debt, a personal loan from my mom, and a home equity line of credit. Recently getting married, purchasing our first home, and some medical bills have really put a hurting on our budget. Some advice that I have read says that one should pay off the debt with the highest interest rate first. Other advice says to pay off the smallest debt first and work my way up the debt ladder. Which one is the most effective in our situation? Amy

According to the Federal Reserve currently there is over $1.7 trillion in consumer debt. So an awful lot of people are facing the very same choice. So let's see if we can figure out what would work best for Amy.
Paying the debt with the highest interest rate will reduce the total debt quicker. The reason is clear. The higher the interest rate, the more interest is added to the balance you owe each month.
Suppose you owed money on two different accounts. The first account charges 5% interest. Paying off $1,000 would save Amy $4.17 per month in interest expense ($1,000 times 0.05 divided by 12 months).
Now suppose the second account charges 10% interest. Paying off $1,000 would save $8.33 per month. Clearly, she'll save more, and reduce her balance quicker, if she pays off the account the highest interest rate.
But, there is a risk to this strategy. It might take Amy quite awhile to pay the entire balance of the account with the highest interest. And, after 6 or 8 months of trying she might get discouraged and be tempted to give up if she's still writing a check to them each month.
Let's face it. Some people are more determined than others. And some of us need immediate feedback or gratification.
One way to get that positive feedback is to have an account disappear because it's be entirely paid off. The fact that it's the account with the smallest balance doesn't matter.
What's best for Amy? Paying off the highest rate of interest first is the most efficient answer. But depending on Amy's personality, paying off the one with the smallest balance might be the best answer.
Before she decides, there are other ways to get positive feedback as you pay down debts. One simple way is to watch your total indebtedness drop each month. Just list the balance on all your accounts and add them up. Then compare the totals after a few months. Notice how the mountain of debt is getting a little smaller. If Amy is into visuals, she could keep a running graph of the total.
Another way to encourage yourself is to watch the amount of interest owed drop each month. Remember that the interest you owe each month doesn't buy you anything. It's the price you pay for borrowing the money some time in the past.
Just list the interest charged by all of your accounts and total it. Again, compare it to the total from a few months ago. If the total amount owed is going down, so should the amount of interest that you pay each month.
Watching her balances drop might not be enough for Amy. She might be one of those people who won't feel successful until she's writing fewer checks each month. If that's the case she should pay off the smallest account first so she feels like she's making progress.
Amy will probably find that her most expensive debt is on credit cards. The least expensive will be her mortgage. If she's sure that they don't have a problem with uncontrolled spending, they might even want to use a home equity loan to pay off some higher interest debt. But only if they're not "spendaholics".
One other strategy would be to pay off one or two of the small accounts to get started. Once Amy is past the point of needing encouragement she can shift to paying more on the accounts with the highest interest.
Finally, it's more important that Amy starts now than which account she pays first. Each month she delays all of the accounts add to the interest owed. The hole gets a little deeper. It's better to pay off low interest debt, than no debt at all.

Tips for Gaining in Google By Sharon Housley
Google tends to not rank new domains. In an effort to deter spammers from generating new websites, Google has implemented filters for new websites, which means that it can be a challenge for a new website to rank in Google's organic search results until they are deemed trustworthy.
The Sandbox
Many websites are relegated to what is called "the sandbox" while Google makes a decision about what to do with them. It is strange to think that Google cares, as if Google has some sort of human attributes. Whether Google really cares or not is really not the point -- the point is: there are factors that help Google discern whether a site should be relegated to the sandbox, or whether the site should appear in the organic search results. The factors are all part of Google's algorithm to rank sites, with the ultimate goal being to provide searchers with the best possible search results. Here are some factors that influence whether a site is destined for the sandbox, or is able to join the party...
Age & Maturity
With age comes wisdom. The search power house looks not only at the age of the domain, but also at the history of the domain. If an old domain has recently changed hands, it might find that it drops from the rankings. In hope of making a quick buck, spammers will often buy domains that have high page ranks, or are considered "trusted" by the search giant. But Google considers this factor as part of their ranking algorithm in order to thwart such attempts by spammers to manipulate search results and rankings.
Optimization
Optimization can impact whether a website is destined for the sandbox. The key is finding a balance and allowing optimization to appear natural. Optimization should be a tool to assist search engines in ranking a specific webpage; it is not intended to manipulate search engines. Webmasters should include keywords in the web page title, description, URL. Keywords should also be used in anchor text in text links, alt tags, and integrated into the body of the web page.
Links
Is the website loved by reputable sources? The links need to be from related and reputable sources, which are popular themselves. It is best to gradually amass links over time.
History Of Visits
Google tracks how long visitors stay on a domain using their Google Toolbar, search requests, and click-throughs in the organic search engine results. If a historic pattern is established that web visitors clicks through to a domain but never actually spend any time on that website, it is clear that the value of the website is questionable.
Content Freshness
Google prefers a website that is current. Google gives better rankings to websites that maintain existing content with current information, and adds new content on a regular basis. Google is partial to an old site with continuous new content that is updated on a frequent basis.
Keywords
You should target keywords that are less common. If you are attempting to compete for highly popular and competitive keywords, you will have a difficult time. It is far easier to rank well for obscure (but relevant) keywords and phrases.
Avoiding Google's sandbox can be a challenge for even the most experienced webmasters. Considering the volume of traffic and number of searches conducted each day in the search giant, appearing in the top search results for critical keywords and phrases can make or break an online business. Take care to avoid Google's sandbox, so your business can benefit from Google's traffic.

Take out the Trash
If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express you should periodically empty your "Deleted Items" folder. Just right-click the Deleted Items bin, click Empty Deleted Items Folder. That'll do it. Most e-mail clients work in a very similar fashion—if they use a recycle bin type folder like Outlook Express does.
Eudora users simply click on “Special” and select “Empty Trash”.
However—if your e-mail program doesn't have that handy little right-click-and-empty feature, go into the Deleted Items folder (or the equivalent for your software) and hit CTRL-A. That should select everything in that folder. From there, just hit Delete.
What if you want to keep your deleted stuff that's less than, say, a week old? Well, you can do that too. Click the oldest message and scroll down to the last one you want to remove. Next, hold your Shift key and click the message. Everything between the first e-mail you clicked and the last should be highlighted. A tap of the Delete button and they’re gone.
If you haven't emptied your deleted item folder for awhile, remember with all the spam we get, it can get pretty big very quickly, and take up a ton of hard drive space. Not only that, but will cause your system to run slower when accessing your mail. So, why no get in the habit of emptying it on a regular basis.

What Do You Really Really Want?
Do you know what you want? Are you sure?
Mark Twain said it over a hundred years ago: "I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want."
And it's as true today as it was in the 1800s.
Most of the people I talk with do NOT know. They might think they know, but most don't.
I've been doing an informal survey recently and less than 10% can tell me clearly what they want to achieve. Less than TEN PERCENT! And this is from asking some pretty knowledgeable and sophisticated people.
I just put up a survey (bottom left of our home page) and the question is, "What Do You Think You Need Most to Succeed?" I invite you to participate in this poll.
Already, the top answer is "More Clarity on How to Achieve What You Want".
The what and the why are always more important than the how. The how is the easy part. So here's what I see as some of the best ways to get clear on what you want.
What's Important to You? It starts with knowing yourself and knowing what's important to you. Do you know what your core values are? If you understand what matters most to you, you'll find all the choices you need to make are much easier. The clarity that comes from discovering your core values will position you to gain more fulfillment and experience less frustration.

A Mastermind Team One valuable source of support for you to get clear--and stay clear--on what you want is a mastermind team. Being able to bounce things off from a trusted group makes a huge difference. If you don't have a Master Mind, resolve to form one now. If you already have one, put your best into it--and get all you can out of it. You can even join one that's just forming if you want to be part of my Diamond Club.
Tolerations Getting clear on what you DON'T want is also a good place to start. Sometimes it's the best way to figure out what you want.
We recommend keeping a Tolerations List. This is where you record the things in your life you are tolerating. Things that are broken, worn out, don't feel god or look good. Anything that makes you feel bad.
The idea isn't to dwell on these things but to bring them to light, so you can see what need eliminating. It's amazing how fast they get handled just by writing them down.
The opposite of what you don't want can be candidates for things you do want. Having an aging wardrobe can lead to the goal of buying a new one. A toleration of credit card debt can lead to the goal of paying all cards in full every month.
Your Dream List I recommend keeping a list of everything you've ever wanted. Write down anything that strikes your fancy. They won't all become goals, but many of them will. It's fun to tap into this well of ideas. Let yourself dream.
Make Sure You Choose What YOU Want Clear out any expectations that others have of you. Often we get confused because we think the things others want for us belong to us. They don't.
A hint that you're getting close to your own wants is the feeling that goes with it. Our own wants will have a lot of energy around them (excitement, thrill, enthusiasm, etc). If you feel low energy about something, it's probably not something you want or you associate it with too much work and effort to get it.
Invest the Time Most of our lack of confusion comes from not taking the time to think about what we really want.
Block out some time to think, to make the lists and to talk about it with someone you trust and respect--and who trusts and respects you. Liken this process to an archeological dig. It's a process of discovery. Rest assured the answers are there.
You might have to dig for awhile, though. It may take a number of sessions, but it will be time well invested, because you'll be working on things you TRULY want--things for which you have passion. You will know once you've hit on the right answers. It will feel GREAT.
Clarity Does Lead to Power Once you are certain about what you want, you can be more conscious about your intent. And the more conscious you are regarding your intent, the more probable your extraordinary success.
