Postcard E-mail Scam

Those e-mails are part of a scam that
is going around these days. It's going by the name of the
"Postcard Scam," but there are various versions of it that
may have found its way to your e-mail Inbox. Let's take a
look at it and see what it's all about.

If you receive one of these e-mails in your Inbox, the
subject will say something like "You've received a postcard
from a family member" or something similar to that. There
have also been some that say something about an e-card, a
greeting or even one specifying a special holiday (like the
Fourth of July, for example). The senders of this scam have
also varied. These spam e-mails have come from Hallmark,
Greetings123, eCards, GreetingCards.com and more.

If you open the e-mail, it will tell you that you've been
sent a postcard and there will be a link you can click on
to go and preview it. But, if you click on that link,
you're putting yourself at risk for a potential virus or
malware infestation. Once you click on the link, the
scammers know your address is a real one and they can start
sending you malicious material at any time. So, although
these e-mails look tempting, don't click on that link!

If it says it comes from someone you know, it is most
likely legit. But, be extra careful not to fall for this
trick. Like I always say, if the e-mail looks suspicious,
just delete it as fast as you can. It's better to be safe
than sorry, don't you think?!

Internet Marketing Persistence

Starting a business online will present the entrepreneur
many opportunities to quit. When the articles that you
wrote do not bring sales, when pay per click costs more
than you thought it would and when the traffic just doesn't
trickle into the site you created... why go on? The sad
fact is that most new business owners will remain stuck in
this mode which leads to immediate failure. The piece you
are reading today had to be rewritten three times in order
to be presented. The first edition was wiped out due to
user error, the second was erased when the computer
restarted and here is the third. The take no prisoners,
never give up attitude is what you will need to make it. Do
you have it?

Business on the net is just as challenging as any offline
business if not more so. The benefit to working on the web
is that you will not be required to come up with a boat
load of money to start. What you will be expected to come
up with is time. What kind of time? Any right minded
business consultant would advise you that any firm will
need at least a year to see profit. If one year sounds like
it would be out of the question then this is not the
industry for you. If you are not scared yet then let's take
a look at how you can remove some obstacles you never knew
were coming.

What is in your way? Stop and think about what you would do
if you were waiting inline to order a coffee and you notice
that ten people are ahead of you. Do you walk off and
decide the wait just isn't worth it? If you are like most
then you just can not deal with not having instant
gratification. If you are part of a rare few you will wait
to notice that three or four people walk off within five
minutes allowing those that waited to make it to the head
of the line. Often times your marketing journey will be
just like the wait at the coffee counter.

In a world where everyone has become accustomed to getting
everything in a millisecond it is easy to see where many
can fail when it comes to tests of endurance. The key is to
remain persistent and put in the effort day in and day out
for at least one year. During this period you will need to
become deaf to those that tell you that working online is a
hobby or for those that ask when you will get a real job.
Making money is possible for those that can find the
dedication and disprove their naysayers.

The perfect way to deal with all of this is to simply turn
it into the raw energy you need to put into your new
business. When ever those impatient thoughts or negative
surroundings start to take over then push yourself to work
harder. It's like they always say you get out what you put
in so roll up your sleeves. If you are not getting what you
want do more, it is a simple equation for success.

Stare your fear in the eye any time you encounter it and
think about what you would do if you did not have the fear.
It will be the same mindset you will need to have when you
feel like you do not have the patience to write an article
or make a post. Keep plugging away and enjoy the freedom
your new business will provide you when you start to make a
profit.

Conventional Wisdom Blows

The truth is following conventional wisdom is likely the
best course of action for most because few people seem to
have any goals, plans, or demonstrate any initiative or
perseverance to meet the challenges that occur on the road
to success. If that sounds like you, then perhaps you
should follow conventional wisdom.

How many times have you been told to pay attention in
school and study in order to get the best grades which in
turn lead to better job opportunities, higher wages, better
benefits, and that's what you have to look forward to until
retirement. Instead of hatching your own plan for wealth
and success, you become part of someone else's plan...a
plan that will leave them wealthy and you just over broke.
That's conventional wisdom, but does that really describe
the ideal way for you to spend the majority of your adult
life? I don't think so. There must be a better way.
Wouldn't you rather be calling the shots and living life on
your own terms? Many others are doing it and there's no
reason you can't do it too.

Conventional wisdom is a success inhibitor. Have you ever
wondered why many young children have high expectations for
the future but by the time they are teenagers they've
lowered their expectations due to years of exposure to
conventional wisdom?

I wonder how many big dreams have been crushed by
conventional wisdom. How many children had big dreams of
being doctors, lawyers, actors, musicians, pro sports
stars, entrepreneurs, or whatever else they dreamed of
being only to be told by their parents, relatives,
teachers, etc. how difficult it would be to succeed and
dash their dreams. So these kids lower their expectations
based on advice from unsuccessful people. Conventional
wisdom might be good for the masses but is it good for you?
That's for you to decide but it's not good for me. I think
conventional wisdom sucks.

Consider these true stories. A guy named Michael Jordan
was cut from his high school basketball team. An aspiring
actor named Clint Eastwood was told he didn't have a chance
to be successful in Hollywood. And a young singer named
Elvis was turned away by several recording studios. Did
these guys pout and give up hope. No way. Not a single
one of them followed conventional wisdom. Successful
people see failure as a temporary setback on the road to
success. They realize all obstacles can be overcome with
perseverance. These guys are legends today because they
refused to take the advice of the so-called experts who
said they weren't good enough. And you would be wise to
follow their example.

A large number of successful people eschew conventional
wisdom. How many people with the potential to succeed like
Michael Jordan, Clint Eastwood, or Elvis have had their
hopes dashed by conventional wisdom? Sadly, we'll never
know. Fortunately, it's never too late to succeed.
Regardless of your age, it's never too late to dream your
ideal life and make it a reality. Are you letting
conventional wisdom hold you back?

Quick Launch

The space where the icons sit in the bottom left side of
your desktop (right next to the Start button) is called the
Quick Launch Toolbar. You can put an icon there for any
program that you go to regularly, so it will open much
quicker. Otherwise, you have to go to your Start menu and
search through all of your Programs or find where it's
located on your desktop.

Sometimes that can take much longer than you would like, so
putting an icon right at the bottom of your screen might
help you to find the program much quicker and the quick
launch makes it easier to get going on your daily computer
activities.

To put a new icon in your toolbar, find the program in your
Start menu or on your desktop and just simply drag and drop
it into the quick launch area. Once you do that, a new icon
will automatically be created for quicker access.

To get rid of an icon, just right click on it and select
Delete and then Yes. Sounds easy enough, right? : )

Business Mistakes to Avoid By Sharon Housley

Small businesses and entrepreneurs often repeat the same
mistakes. If you are an entrepreneur, the following is a
list of critical mistakes to avoid in your new venture:

1. Promising The World

Entrepreneurs will commonly make bold promises that are
often impossible to actually deliver. It is important that
you stay grounded in reality, and only agree to things that
you know you can actually deliver.

2. Lack Of Discipline

Owning a business takes commitment and self-discipline.
Since you are "the boss" you probably won't be disciplined
for things like not showing up for work on time... but such
things will have a negative impact on your business. It is
important that entrepreneurs treat their business just like
a real business, and not like a personal hobby. Act
professional, charge for your services, and be accountable
for the product or service provided. Self-discipline is
critical to being self-employed.

3. Lack Of Focus

Remain focused on your core business philosophy, and don't
attempt to be everything to everyone. Decide what your
strengths and business focus are, and use that strength and
focus to build the foundation for your core business.

4. Doing It All

While most small business owners are jacks-of-all-trades,
it is important to know your limits. Do not try to do it
all. In many situations, it is much better to hire someone
or outsource a project than attempt to reinvent the wheel
or do something yourself that you are simply not qualified
to do.

5. Undervaluing Product Or Service

Small businesses often make the mistake of undervaluing
their product or service. If an item or service is priced
too inexpensively, it may be viewed to be of inferior
quality. Conduct a cost analysis, and consider
split-testing to find the appropriate price point for your
product or service.

6. Hiring Family

It is natural for a small business owner to want to hire
family members, but this is often a very costly mistake.
If you do hire family members, be sure to make it clear
from the beginning that business is business. Employment
should not effect your personal relationships -- that is
very easy to say, but unfortunately it often does effect
your personal and family relationships. Additionally,
other employees may resent favoritism paid to a family
member who is given priority. And sadly, favoritism of a
family member can often be perceived by other employees,
even when it doesn't actually exist. Think long and hard
before venturing down this path.

7. Copying The Competition

Copying the competition is certainly far easier to do than
creating something new. However, that does not mean that
it is a good thing to do.

8. Tracking Advertising

It is important to track and measure the success or failure
of any advertising campaigns. If you do not track your
advertising, you will not really know what works and what
does not, and you could be throwing good money after bad.

9. Not Having A Plan

It is important that you have goals, and a plan for your
business. Use the plan to guide the direction of your
business.

10. Failure To Invest

You have to spend money in order to make money. Many
entrepreneurs fail to invest in their business, yet expect
instant success. Building a business takes time, effort,
and both a personal and a financial investment.

11. Inability To Adapt

Many small businesses change over the years. You must be
willing to adapt to the changing needs of a business, and
to the changing needs of your customers, in order to
survive in the the business world.

Launching a business is an exciting and rewarding
experience. Just be careful to avoid the above pitfalls on
your way to success.

6 Easy Tips For Finding Article Publishers

Article marketing rocks and can bring in lots of quality
traffic and sales. However a lot of people fail to kick
there marketing efforts into overdrive by not submitting
articles to real publishers thereby losing out on large
untapped market of viewers.

Most people think they can't get there work in a real
publication but the reality is editors are constantly on
the lookout for proven writers who can deliver good quality
articles. Let's look at six simple tips for finding some of
these places to get published:

1. Google It Search for publishers on Google or your
favorite search engine using a combination of keywords
including your market topic and article or ezine... That is
pretty darn simple.

2. Opt-in Many people think opt-in forms are only for
gathering potential and current customer lists... but you
can also use them to collect email addresses of publishers
as well. Simply add an opt-in form on each of your content
sites allowing people to sign up to receive articles. Watch
as this list grows over time on total auto-pilot.

3. Directories Scattered across the web are several large
directories listing thousands of ezines. These aren't
exactly goldmines and you will spend a lot of time
researching these sites but often times you can pick up a
few new places for several minutes of time searching.

4. Newsletters Almost every market and topic out there has
some sort of emailed newsletter, if you have been working
within a given market for any length of time you should
already be aware of or familiar with these newsletters. A
good majority of newsletters accept outside article
submissions.

5. Subscribe if you are currently subscribed to a
newsletter don't just start submitting articles to the
editor, by now you should have a good feel if your work is
a fit for it or not. You will also want to see if the
newsletter prints articles from outside authors, if they do
then send the editor a quick yet personalized query message
including some clips of your best work.

6. Magazines Print magazines that have been around for
awhile are almost always in profitable markets and
typically have circulations that reach many thousands of
readers. The downside is that magazines require much more
formality and are harder at getting your works published
but they can definitely be worth the hassle.

Emailing a Picture

Just yesterday, I had a phone call from someone who wanted
to send me a picture she had taken with her digital camera.
While the answer is basically simplistic, if someone has
never done it, it can be a challenge.

Now doing this on the phone, I had her go to "Windows
Explorer" and, find the image she wanted to send.. Now
that was the easy part. When we went to attach it to her
email, I told her what to do, and to select the file she
had just saved. Try as she might, she couldn’t find the
file.

OK – back to "Windows Exploer". This time I had her write
down the directory and file name she was saving. Back to
the email and it went without a hitch.

Unless you do something all the time, it is best to have
paper and pencil available when doing something new. That
way you don’t have to trust your memory, when you are 5 or
6 steps away from what you did.

Registering A Domain Is Actually Quite Easy To Do.

If you are looking to register a domain name, you will need
to find a domain name registrar to do so. These companies
are approved by a governing body known as ICANN. This group
ensures that the companies are legitimate and adhere to
their regulations. So, the easiest way to register your
domain name is to find a registrar.

At one point in time, there was only one domain name
registrar, which was Network Solutions. Today however,
there are dozens of accredited registrars. Keep in mind
however, that only a name registrar is permitted to access
as well as modify the master database of names maintained
by InterNIC.

InterNIC research can tell you a little about any domain
name in the world. They have a complete list of each
registrar, and you can find out about possible URLs. You
will know if it's currently or ever been registered. You
can do these searches for free.

If you happen to come across a registrar that is not on the
list, it's most likely that the organization is acting as a
reseller for one of the accredited registrars and only an
accredited registrar will have the ability to modify the
database which contains the domain names.

Each registrar sets its own rates for your domain name, and
you will pay them for your registration. Most companies
offer a small annual fee with discounts for getting your
name longer. Ten years is the maximum amount of time a
company can sell a domain name registration for.

The registrar that you decide to register with will ask you
to provide some contact and technical information to have
on record. The information you provide is stored in a
registry, which other computers can access to find
information on your website once it is operational. Even
though it may seem like an invasion of privacy, it's best
to be honest when you supply the contact information. The
registrar can cancel a contract and then resell the domain
if it cannot contact an actual person to settle any legal
issues.

Be careful if you have the idea to purchase a domain name
to keep other people from using it. That is illegal. You
also cannot purchase trademarked names, such as Wal-Mart or
Louis Vuitton unless you are that corporation. These names
are protected by copyright. If you have any questions about
the legality of the URL you would like, it is best to ask
the registrar about it now. If you get advice, then you
will not be surprised in the future about what happens with
your domain name.

If you want to create a domain name but aren't sure if it's
taken, you can always check a whois server that actually
keeps track of all registered domain names. By using the
whois, you'll know quickly if the name you have in mind has
been taken or not. If it's available, all you have to do is
register it - then let the fun begin!
