How To Use PopUps With Google Adwords
 Steve Shaw

One of the common issues that marketers face when using
Google Adwords, is that the use of popups on the target
page for their ad is not permitted. Many Adwords
advertisers just completely remove popups from their web
site, which can not only significantly damage the
profitability that results from other traffic sources, but,
as we shall see, it is also not entirely necessary. This
article looks at alternative solutions, which when
implemented can virtually double the ROI (Return On
Investment) for Adwords ads.

It is well recognized that by capturing the visitor's email
address, and then following up with them via an effective
auto-responder campaign, marketers can more than double
their chances of clinching the sale. Popups can be a very
effective way of doing this, often helping to convert 50%
of more of visitors to subscribers.

With Google Adwords however, because popups are not
permitted, you need to look for other ways in which you can
maximize the visitor-to-subscriber conversion ratio, and
thereby also maximize the value you get out of each
click-through to your web site.

Here are three main ways in which you can do this:

1. Set your target page for your ad as a so-called 'name
squeeze' page - this means the whole page you direct them
to is focussed on one thing, to get their name and email
address, following which you can always redirect them to
your normal sales page to try and 'make the sale'. You
still need to make sure of course that your ad accurately
reflects your target page.

As an example of how to do this, let's say you sell cheap
widgets, and your ad is displayed for the keywords 'cheap
widgets'. Write a report or an ebook on 'How To Choose The
Best Cheap Widget' and offer it for free on your name
squeeze page, in return for their email address.

2. Use a special type of popup that doesn't actually
display in a new browser window, but 'hovers' over your
existing web page - this type of popup is not detected by
Google (nor for that matter can they be prevented by popup
blocker technology), and works in a similar way to dynamic
menus, which of course are perfectly permissable. I have
been using this type of popup very successfully for many
months in conjunction with Adwords.

3. Put popups on other pages - Google does not stipulate
that you should no popups on your web site, only on the
target page for your ad. This means that if your target
page encourages visitors to click through to other areas of
your web site, you can add put popups on these other pages
to help capture your visitors email address.

For example, if you have a long sales letter, try splitting
it up onto two or more pages. Your popup(s) can be placed
on any of the other pages. I use PopUpMaster Pro to ensure
that the popup does not appear if certain links are pressed
- this means that you don't show the popup to visitors who
click through to read other pages of the sales letter or to
order, but otherwise (if they leave your web site) you show
them an exit popup to try and grab their email address
before they are 'lost forever'.


Use one of the above methods, and you should find that you
capture the details of many more visitors who click through
from your Google Adwords ad - and by doing this, together
with an effective autoresponder campaign, your return on
your ad could greatly increase too.

Outlook Express Address Book

Do you use Outlook Express for your main e-mail program?

If
you do, I'm sure you also use the Address Book feature

that
comes along with it, right? It's the easiest way to store
all of your contact information. To add an entry to the OE
Address Book, just go to Tools, Address Book, New, New
Contact and fill in the information).

Once you have your Address Book up and running, it's
probably safe to say that every once in awhile, you have

to
go in and update an entry. Maybe one of your contacts got

a
new e-mail address or maybe someone moved to a different
home address, etc. Whatever the case may be, you have to

go
in and change the information around. So, what's the
quickest way to do that?

Open Outlook Express and go to Tools, Address Book. Find

an
entry that you need to update and just double click it.
Once you do that, the Properties window will pop right up
and you can go through the different tabs and change the
information as needed. Now, with the old way, you had to
open up your Address Book, right click on an entry, choose
Properties, etc., etc. But now, there's no more extra
clicking for you. This is, hands down, the easiest way to
update your Address Book.

We All Start As Beginners

When I started practicing Aikido 2 years ago, every time I
stepped onto the mat, I felt like a club footed monkey
after a lobotomy. I was bad. Very bad. Nothing went right.
I didn't know how to roll, fall, attack, turn, or simply
keep my balance. My Kote Gaeshi looked more like Kote
Wussie and Ikkyo was more Sicko.

Hardly anything done in Aikido is what a normal person
would choose as a first option. It takes a lot of practice
to overcome the basic instincts of avoiding punches and
kicks, instead stepping into them. Do you know how much
confidence it takes to realize just when your attackers
think they have you where they want you, they just gave

you
a great opportunity to introduce them to the Earth... very
suddenly.

An internet business is much the same. Your first product
is probably going to be horrible. Let's just be honest
here. It will squeak and whine and you'll say too little

in
some parts and too much in others. Your first sales page
will most likely be the same. Benefits instead of

features?
Not likely in a first draft! Your first posts will be weak
and your first articles probably won't be all that and a
bag of chips either. You'll struggle for traffic and sales
will be dismal.

But it's important you do them AND you release them. What
you're looking for at this time is feedback. It's similar
to the time I was performing a technique (poorly) and my
partner thought I should have been doing it better. So she
(all 5' 90lbs of her) countered and introduced me to the
mat, sharply. In an online business: Did the sales page
convert? Where is the traffic coming from? How can I get
more? Am I getting a lot of returns? What could I have

done
better? Each time did I survive and learn my lesson? Yes.
Have I had similar lessons since then? Of course, both in
Aikido and in my online business. Improvement is the key.
Focus on getting better, not how terrible you are today.

Here's 3 reasons why being bad at something is good:

1. For the ideas. Any problems you have is an opportunity
to create a product, blog post or article. Did you find an
effective way to generate traffic? Create an e-book. Don't
understand what FTP is? Create a blog post. Can't do
something in WordPress? Build the plugin yourself and sell
it on to others. My suggestion: WRITE DOWN YOUR PROBLEMS.
Keep it in a journal or a simple txt document. Log
everything and someday when you're stuck for ideas, open

it
up and viola, no more research needed!

2. You get better at it by doing. Everyone was once a
beginner. Leonardo Da Vinci probably once drew in stick
figures but he went on to paint the ceiling of the Sistine
Chapel. You don't get better my reading, you get better by
practicing. My suggestion: Consider everything between now
and when you consider yourself a master to be nothing more
than practice. Practice, practice, practice and make it

fun!

3. It's fun. Perhaps it's just me, but I find learning

fun.
You can't learn about things you've already mastered, so
most of the things you need/want to learn about you're
going to do badly! There isn't a single person who is good
at everything. Make your tasks fun. Make discovery fun. My
suggestion: Children find everything fascinating. Adopt a
child like attitude towards all the tasks you're faced
with. Enjoying the learning process is probably why
children learn so fast and innately. When you learn
something let out a big AHA! Then do a little dance.

So get out there and be horrible at something. If you keep
at it, in a couple of months/years, you'll actually be

good
at it. That's how the masters got to be masters.

Making Communication Effective: 4 Language Filters

Language is a challenging way to communicate. It allows us
to share our thoughts and feelings by describing our
personal views of reality.

Yet language is not reality. It is merely a limited system
of symbols, signals, sounds, or gestures that belong to a
specific culture or group. It only describes a personal map
of the actual territory. We might have a great message to
share. Yet there are other important factors to consider if
we want to make our communication effective.

In addition to the content of our messages, language
conveys feelings. Our voices are colored with emotion and
attitude. Add the subtle nuances of pitch and loudness,
intonation, rate, facial expression and posture. Now we
have a complex pattern of behavior with the power to
influence our listeners.

Without those additional nuances available in writing, the
selection of words and sentences must do all the work. They
must be chosen carefully.  Whether our messages are spoken
or written, the job is still unfinished.

Our language must pass through the filters of emotion,
culture, situational context, and personal beliefs. These
filters will influence the listener's perception and
interpretation of our message resulting in either
acceptance or rejection of our ideas.

1. Emotion:  Our listeners may be joyful, anxious, upset,
expectant, excited, or in any emotional state.  Their
emotional state will influence their reaction to our
message. An upset individual will not be ready to receive
new ideas. On the other hand, someone who is looking
forward to hearing what we have to say will accept our
ideas if we present them well.

2. Culture:  An individual's personal history, country of
origin and upbringing will influence their worldview. Their
language may not contain words and concepts that ours does.
These people will interpret our messages differently than
someone with our own background. They may not understand
many of our views.  When formulating our messages, we must
take care to respect cultures, customs, and histories that
are different from our own.

3. Situational Context: What the listener has recently
experienced as well as environmental factors will also
influence the way he or she receives our messages.  Unlike
emotions, situational context involves elements that are
external to the listener.  This includes our own
presentation of the message. What we said previously and
how we said it will influence the listener's perception of
what we say next.  A room that is too noisy, dark, cold, or
uncomfortable will distract the listener's attention.

4. Personal Beliefs: We filter everything we hear through
our personal beliefs.  We relate everything we experience
to previous experiences.  If we understand an idea or
concept, it is because we are relating it to our past
learning.  It is rare that we actually have a completely
new experience.  We have core beliefs about our lives;
these personal maps of the world guide the way we listen,
perceive, and interpret what we hear.  Our messages will be
influenced significantly by our listener's personal
beliefs. We need to select our words carefully, and craft
our presentations so that they will touch our listeners on
a deeper emotional level.  It is at this deeper emotional
level where the most effective communication is achieved.

Well-chosen language can touch the heart and soul, find a
common ground, tear down walls of division, and foster
powerful new alliances. It can be an extremely powerful
success tool.

Language that ignores the listener's emotional state,
culture, current life situations, and personal beliefs will
miss its mark. Instead of building trust, it will distance
us from those who could become friends and allies.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Eloquence is the power to
translate a truth into language perfectly intelligible to
the person to whom you speak."

Choosing our messages carefully, and remembering these
language filters will help us develop that eloquence, and
will make our communications more effective. We will obtain
improved results in both our careers and personal lives by
engendering trust, building rapport, and creating positive
new relationships.

If you are in the market for a new printer, you should
always test it before you actually buy it. You might be

to run a test print for you.Most printer display models

are
powered up and ready to print test pages, so it shouldn't
be too much of a problem. You're the one buying the

printer
and you need to make sure it's everything you're hoping it
is.

By doing a test print, you will be able to see the
printer's overall quality and decide if it's gwhat you
want. You may need your printer for various reasons and

you
should make sure that a particular printer will be able to
handle all of those tasks for you. Also, you will be able
to hear the noises the printer makes.

Sometimes inkjets are very noisy or a printer shakes a
little when it's printing. You may not want something like
that, so you need to be aware of everything you're getting
along with the printer. The test print will also allow you
to see the whole process of printing within that printer
and you'll get to experience how it will work for you in
your home.

Four Kinds of Links By Sharon Housley

Links are an important component in an online marketing
campaign. Websites usually need a significant number of
quality links to perform well in organic search rankings.
Once upon a time, high-quality links were plentiful. But
with the growth of the web, and an ever-increasing number
of competing websites, garnering link love and attention

is
a time-consuming and tedious process.

There are 4 different types of links that webmasters can
work to obtain...

1. One-Way Links

A one-way link is a hyperlink from one website to another.
For example, Website A links to Website B.

Undeniably, these are the best kind of links for a website
to have, albeit the most difficult type of link to obtain.
A website will usually need to contain unique and
compelling content in order for another website to link to
it without any payment or reciprocal returning link.

2. Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links are when two websites exchange links. For
example, Website A links to Website B; and Website B links
to Website A.

The value of reciprocal links is questionable, as you are
essentially 'trading' links. Some search engines track the
link patterns, and consider reciprocal links as
"exchanges". Many webmasters believe that search engines
place a lower value on reciprocal links than for one-way
links, which is why their value is questionable.

3. Paid Links

Paid links are just that: links that are purchased. For
example, Website A gives $ to Website B; then Website B
links to Website A.

Compensatory links range from purchased text links to
pay-per-click links, where a webmaster pays for clicks

that
are generated from the link. The upside to paid links is
that they are not difficult to obtain if you are willing

to
pay. You can also control the rate in which the links
increase, and how long the paid links last. The downside

is
that major search engines discourage webmasters from
purchasing text links outright (most search engines accept
pay-per-click links). In fact, if a search engine suspects
that a website is trying to "buy" their way to the top of
their organic rankings by manipulating the number of
websites linking to a webpage, they may ban the website
from the search engine.

4. Network Links (3-Way)

Network links are links that are triangulated. For

example,
Website A links to Website B; Website B links to Website

C;
and Website C links to Website A.

Network links are an expansion of link exchanges, and
generally make it more difficult for a search engine to
discern the link patterns. As a result, search engines may
assess the value of network links as one-way links rather
than the reciprocal links that they really are. Excessive
use of network links can be more easily identified by
search engines.

Most webmasters incorporate all the link types into their
linking strategy.
